What is Maine Home Performance? Home Performance with Energy Star, a national program from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy, offers a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency and comfort at home, while helping to protect the environment. Homeowners who improve their homes with energy-efficient retrofits reduce emissions of carbon that contributes to climate change. The mission of Maine Home Performance with Energy Star is to create a sustainable market throughout the State of Maine for diagnosis and treatment of homes to make them healthy, comfortable and energy efficient. The Program links Maine homeowners with qualified and certified Evaluators who provide one-stop-shop access to a whole-house approach to home improvements. The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security developed the Program in close coordination with the Maine Housing Authority and Efficiency Maine, a division of the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The Program was initiated in July 2006. By October 2006, the program was fully launched with Evaluator training and certification, and innovative and integrated consumer marketing.
